Russia may launch 1st NPP for hydrogen generation in 2033

MOSCOW, Dec 27 (PRIME) -- Russia’s first nuclear power plant (NPP) for hydrogen generation is scheduled to start before 2033 and be in commercial operation by 2036, Andrei Nikipelov, General Director of nuclear power corporation Rosatom’s machine-building unit Atomenergomash told PRIME in an interview on Monday.

“According to the roadmap, the technical design for the NPP’s reactor must be completed in 2023. At the beginning of 2025, we must obtain a license to build the plant, and by the fall of the same year, we must develop design documentation. The physical start-up of the first unit of the plant is scheduled for the end of 2032, and in December 2035 the plant is expected to be put into commercial operation,” Nikipelov said.

Earlier, the Russian government approved a plan for the development of hydrogen energy in the country, including that of nuclear-hydrogen energy technologies, until 2024.
